Ask, and It Will Be Given (MAT 7:7-11)

[7:7] “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

[7:8] For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

[7:9] Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

[7:10] Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?

[7:11] If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

The Golden Rule (MAT 7:12-14)

[7:12] “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

[7:13] “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.

[7:14] For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

A Tree and Its Fruit (MAT 7:15-20)

[7:15] “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

[7:16] You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

[7:17] So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.

[7:18] A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.

[7:19] Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

[7:20] Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.

I Never Knew You (MAT 7:21-23)

[7:21] “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

[7:22] On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’

[7:23] And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Build Your House on the Rock (MAT 7:24-27)

[7:24] “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

[7:25] And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

[7:26] And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

[7:27] And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

Jesus Cleanses a Leper (MAT 8:1-4)

[8:1] When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.

[8:2] And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.”

[8:3] And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

[8:4] And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”

The Faith of a Centurion (MAT 8:5-13)

[8:5] When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him,

[8:6] “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”

[8:7] And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.”

[8:8] But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.

[8:9] For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

[8:10] When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith.

[8:11] I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,

[8:12] while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

[8:13] And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.

Jesus Heals Many (MAT 8:14-17)

[8:14] And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever.

[8:15] He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him.

[8:16] That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.

[8:17] This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”

The Cost of Following Jesus (MAT 8:18-22)

[8:18] Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side.

[8:19] And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”

[8:20] And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

[8:21] Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”

[8:22] And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”
